In this thread i will list foods that your bird can eat, and what you must NOT give them.

YES
SMALL AMOUNT
NO
............................................
.....................................................
............................................
Carrots
Spinach
Cherry Pit
Apple
Parsley
Mushroom
Banana
Grapes
Avocado
Pear
EggsApple Seed
Plum

Caffeinated Beverages
Peach

Carbonated Beverages
Nectarine

Alcohol
pomegranates
Rhubarb
Mellon

Salt
Cherries

Chocolate
Blueberries

Peach Pit
Strawberry

Onion (read below)
Black Current

Garlic (read below)
Hawthorn

Mountain Ash Berries

Broccoli

Beetroot

Cauliflower

Cabbage

Celery

Courgette

Cucumber

Corn

Sweet Potato

Sweet Peas

Squash

Pumpkin

Tomato

Peppers

Chili Peppers

Raspberry

Blackberries

GARLIC AND ONION
: Garlic and onion are from the same family, so have similar action on
the body. The caution comes from the fact that these vegetables are bad
for dogs because they destroy red blood cells and cause anemia. It is
obviously different for humans. But no on knows for sure in which
category the birds fall. Garlic is a very strong antioxidant and
immune-booster, that is why occasional addition of it to food will
probably be beneficial, but if dont just once a week won't cause
problem. I AM NOT 100% SURE about this but famous parrot owners and
breeders give garlic to their birds with no negative consequences. FEEDING OF THESE TO YOUR PARROT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT TAKE THE RISK OF FEEDING EITHER GARLIC OR ONION TO MY PARROT.

if people want to add foods to the list just reply in this thread, and either me or one of the mods will add it to the list.

Very Happy Garlic, as well as onion is controversial. A little bit of it once a week is ok I think Smile

thanks irina...i thought onion was no-no but garlic was an occasional (different plant species)...thought i heard garlic was good, actually (antioxidants)...it's hard to decide, all of this is basically newer research that isn't completely tested, is that correct?

onion i think is best avoided. Garlic is alright in tiny amounts.
Here is the link to the wonerful properties of garlic http://www.holisticbirds.com/pages/garlic1001.htm
Actually thinking about it, some breeders recommend adding liquid garlic to bird's food once a week, and it is included in many bird recipes. So just place it in limited quantities bit.

funny...the confusion over some things...asparagus, for example (such as the garlic)...just when you think its good you see a differnent opinion and then its bad...no wonder we're all crazy, LOL Laughing

i thought asparagus was good too, then ran across some older posts (on the other forum) saying quite the opposite...it confused me, and so i am not sure of this at all (i now consider it the same as brocolli, which seems to be controversial due to the calcium absorbtion issue) Question
